The Boy is 3 Weeks Old!

The Kraken is finally in Cebu.

By some act of sorcery, we're staying at this swanky condo for a couple of days. This place has a loft and an incredible view of fuente circle and the capitol. I want to copypaste this unit, build it as a house in the mountains, and fill it with books.
Malaya: This view is perfect for megalomanic musings.

The first day we arrived, he was uncharacteristically cranky around the fawning paternal side of his family. Considering how wide-eyed he was at the beginning of the day, Chris and I figured he was just overstimulated.

And then for the next batch of visitors, he opened his eyes every now and then to satiate them with gurgling and all-around cuteness, and then would fall asleep. So I think he's starting to get the hang of crowds.

Then again, this crowd has been nothing but adoring, so I don't think he's ready for the tomato-throwing kind yet.

People have been reacting with surprise at how tiny he is. He does look bigger in the photos. Well folks, he was 6.98 lbs. when he came out. We don't know how much bigger he got since, but his cheeks and thighs are filling out deliciously.

I say deliciously because the urge to bite is strong. Makagigil.

We're also getting better at nursing. We still have moments where he opens his mouth one way and I poke the nipple the other, but most of the time, he latches on pretty quickly. The only bane to our feeding time is his congestion, which returned while he was under antibiotics.

The poor boy wheezes and groans through the phlegm. The salt spray has been helping, but he hates it when I spray him with it and I hate having to force him to take it. When he was in the hospital, the nebulizer helped the most with the congestion, but the old pedia advised we stop nebulizing when we left the hospital.

So that's another order of business while we're in Cebu - to look for a competent pediatrician. One who isn't medicine happy, as Ninang Gani puts it.

Paternal lola made several suggestions. One was Chris' own pedia, who he doesn't remember. But he boasts never ever having to go to the hospital for anything in all his 30 years. That's a definite point in favor of the pedia.

On a side note, there is no proof that Chris even had a childhood. No baby pictures whatsoever. His mom couldn't produce the pedia's number either. This gives credibility to Christian's claim of being a centuries-old vampire.

Turns out the pedia happens to be cousin Aviel's doctor too, so we got contact info pretty quick from Ninang Karen, who came by to visit.

Another milestone is that he can carry his head now! He's been raising his head to turn it to the other side for a while now, but we didn't think it was worth noting. Yesterday, he woke up from a nap and I greeted him with a smile. He smiled back. This morning, while feeding, he kept establishing eye contact and smiling.
